Are your watches authentic?

Yes — every timepiece we sell is 100% authentic. All watches undergo strict inspection and authentication by trained expert Horologists. All gem-set pieces are also factory set as we do not deal with aftermarket settings.

Do you offer GST Invoices? 

Yes, local sales are inclusive of GST and are invoiced. You are eligible for a GST refund on departure from Australia under the Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS). Further details are available here: https://www.abf.gov.au/entering-and-leaving-australia/tourist-refund-scheme

Do you accept trade-ins?

Yes, we accept trade-ins toward your next purchase if it falls within our buying criteria. Provide us with the details of your current watch, and we’ll offer a valuation.

Do you ship domestically and internationally?

We ship domestically and worldwide using insured express couriers. Customs duties and taxes vary by country and are the responsibility of the buyer. All payments must also be cleared prior to shipping.

Can I see the watch before buying?

We offer private viewings by appointment at our Melbourne CBD Boutique if the watch is in stock and not being sourced specifically for you. Remote buyers can request high-resolution photos or video inspections.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept bank transfers and selected cryptocurrencies. Unfortunately, card purchases are not accepted due to a high incidence of chargeback issues within the industry. PayPal payments are also not accepted.

Which watches do you purchase?

We purchase pieces that are dated largely 2010 onwards. These watches are typically d from the brands: Rolex, Patek Phillipe, Audemars Piguet, Richard Mille, F.P. Journe, VacheronConstantin and A.Lange Söhne with a specific focus on pieces in the $20k+ range.Additionally, we typically do not purchase watches without original paperwork.

Do you authenticate watches when purchasing? 

Yes, we authenticate all watches when purchasing them either in Melbourne or one of our satellite locations in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, and the Gold Coast.

What documents do I need to provide when selling you a watch?

You would need to provide a valid Australian driver’s licence when selling your timepiece to us. Additionally, we require the warranty paperwork for the watch and the original purchase invoice in some circumstances. 

How do I get my watch to you?

We can receive and authenticate in Melbourne or one of our satellite locations in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, and the Gold Coast. If you are unable to attend one of these locations, we will arrange an armoured courier or organise insured shipping to us with payment being made on authentication of your timepiece.

How do I get paid? 

We will provide an instant direct bank transfer on authentication of your timepiece at our Melbourne Boutique or at one of our satellite locations. If you are sending your timepiece to us, we will pay on the day of receipt once the watch has been authenticated and quality assurance has been completed. 

Will the Authorised Dealer or Boutique find out that I sold my watch?

The Smiling Second has a deep and established local and international client base allowing us to facilitate discreet purchase and sale of both ultra-premium and sought after timepieces. Have peace of mind knowing that the sensitive information regarding your timepiece will remain secure.

How do I get my watch to you?

Will my watch be insured while it is consigned with you?

Yes the watch will be insured at all times from drop off to one of our locations or once shipping to our Melbourne boutique. It will remain insured while in our care.

How much do you charge for consignment?

Our consignment fees vary from 5-10% depending on the value and brand of the piece consigned. Our consignment fees represent our high rate of successful sales.
